Snapchat hacked in 30 minutes despite new security measures

Security is not really the height of Snapchat . A security system put in place after hacking service earlier this month did not survive a day hackers . In a post published January 23, 2014 on his blog, Steve Hickson , PhD student at the University of Georgia Tech in the United States , announced that it had bypassed this system in thirty minutes by writing 100 lines of code.

The two last January , data from 4.6 million users Snapchat were pirated . The target for hackers, was not malicious : they wanted to put pressure on the American society to strengthen the security of the application. Leaders have apologized a few days later , revealing at the same time a patch for this vulnerability.

The new security system is not reliable. It will not take long for hackers to overcome the new security system Snapchat . Previously, Snapchat included three levels of security: username, password and " captcha " , this technique is to identify a series of letters or numbers distorted. The new method of verifying Snapchat replaces this last step , the user now to regain its mascot (a small white ghost ) among a series of similar images. Canadian specialist Steven Hickson has yet announced putting less than 30 minutes to break this technique. " This is a very poor method for a robot may well recognize shapes " , and so defeat the safety purpose of the application explains the expert . Snapchat has not yet responded to this second blow to the security of its application, but will have to quickly propose a new device . Lest users flee his mail .
